About this Blog

Welcome to Po'Nutrition Fax! This blog is about alcohol - it has nothing to do with health or wellness, and the only relationship between this and Edgar Allen Poe is that he was an alcoholic.

I used to work in a liquor store and developed a taste for all different types of booze. As my collection grew, I felt the need to share my knowledge of, interest in, and experiences with my purchases - from the standards (e.g. whisk(e)y, gin) to the less-than-standard (e.g. kirschwasser, raki). You'll also find a lot on beer (another love of mine).

This is not about how much I can drink nor do I promote over-excess of alcohol. As with most blogs, there is some self-reflection included with most of the reviews. The point is to encourage everyone to reflect on what they drink.

Leave comments or ask questions! Also, "follow" me if you like what you read - I am not making money from this blog but if I see more interest in this and hear some feedback, it will encourage me to write more.

Cheers!
Mike

Never Mo'!

As promised, here is why the blog is called what it is:

A few years back, my former roommate and I were hanging out at our old apartment, and he was eating Everlasting Gobstoppers. While investigating the packaging he was quick to point out the contents of the "Nutrition Facts" label. For some reason, he said "Those are some po' nutrition facts!"

He was not saying that the facts themselves were poor; in fact the facts carried quite a bit of data and were far from lacking in their purpose of carrying nutritional information. However these "facts" were to be taken as models of poor nutrition. Having the ear for puns that I do, my first question was "Edgar Allen Poe? What does he know about nutrition?" or something to that extent. This idea then evolved into a gang known as the Po' Nutrition Fax and our tag was  a fax machine sending a fax of Edgar Allen Poe and some of his Nutrition Facts, or in other words, his daily health tips.

I decided to try and make a series of Poe's Facts. Originally, I meant to post them daily on this blog but I only had maybe 20 good ones. I could've just posted a lot of not-funny tips but if I'm going to be posting garbage I may as well be posting other pointless things - like the story of Po' Nutrition Fax. But in case you are curious, here are some examples of Poe's Facts:

#1 -
Some Tough Hombre: "What do you want on your Tombstone?"
Poe: "Trichinosis"

#11 - Medication is for saps
#18 - Insomnia: Keepin’ it real!

Ideally, I was going to post one of his poems and interpret each one into a fact. These were to be sent via fax (with subscription) but that would be too time consuming and stupid.
